“You’ve been here before. Sure you have. Sure. I never forget a face. Come on over here! Let me shake your hand! You couldn’t have picked a better day to come back to Castle Rock.” Stephen King Needful Things

Books Mentioned:
“The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson

Rachel picked this classic American short story that has a history of being controversial. Jackson’s commentary on group think is still powerful and chilling today. If you haven’t read this yet, you must remedy that by picking it up here:
Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt (translated by Nancy Forest-Flier)
We pulled out this podcast favorite for this episode because is there anything more frightening than a quarantined town that is haunted by a 300 year-old witch curse? Didn’t think so! Check it out here:
The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin
Rachel picked this classic by the author of Rosemary’s Baby where a woman moves to a strange town where all the women are a little too happy to play the part of the perfect housewife. Not quite as over-the-top as the Nicole Kidman movie, but interesting. Check it out here:
American Elsewhere by Robert Jackson Bennett
Stephanie’s pick is a mix of American Gods meets Welcome to Night Vale. Mona is an ex-cop who inherits a house in Wink, New Mexico. A town that seems to be hiding a lot of secrets, ones that residents seem to be afraid to mention. Get it here:
Pines (Wayward Pines #1) by Blake Crouch
The first of a trilogy, Rachel’s pick follows an FBI agent who wakes up after a car accident in a strange town called Wayward Pines. This is the basis for the show on Fox. I don’t think anyone would have been able to guess that ending. Find out what the secret is here:
Harvest Home by Thomas Tryon
Stephanie picked is 1973’s Harvest Home which follows Ned and Beth Constantine who move to a seemingly perfect and pastoral town of Cornwall Coombe. They will find out that it is definitely not perfect but terrifying. Get a copy here:
Regulation 19 by PT Hylton
Rachel’s book is the first of a trilogy. Frank comes home to his hometown in Tennessee to find out that is not quite how he left it. There are sinister forces that have taken over the town. Find out what Regulation 19 is here:
